The Computer Department is one of the departments of the Faculty of Science at the University of Derna. The department was established in 1999 as one of the departments of the College of Science before it was annexed under the name of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the first class was graduated in the academic year 2003/2002.
The department hosts a group of Libyan faculty members in various computer specializations, and the department tries, through its graduates, to contribute to solving some of the problems facing the various sectors of the state in organizing their work.
One of the department’s objectives is to prepare qualified national cadres in the fields of computer, prepare graduates so that they have the ability to continue postgraduate studies, and try to obtain a prominent role in scientific studies and research, as well as keeping pace with the rapid development in the field of technology and harnessing it in the service of the country.
The department currently grants a bachelor's degree in computer science. The department works with a study plan of approximately 107 hours. These hours contain specialized courses, support courses, and general courses spread over four years.
