About the Department

The Department of Forests and Range Sciences at the University of Derna was established in the academic year 2011-2012 AD. Its objective is to qualify specialized personnel who contribute to the development and management of forests and rangelands. The department also participates in programs for the conservation of natural vegetation cover, combating desertification, preserving biodiversity, and achieving the optimal utilization of these natural resources.

Vision

The department strives to elevate the quality of educational outcomes, achieve distinction and... cement in academic education and scientific research, and serve the environment and society in the field of forest and range sciences. Mission

The department's mission is to prepare and qualify distinguished cadres in the field of forests and... rangelands, encourage scientific studies, provide consultations to the public and private sectors, and disseminate knowledge among professionals and community members. This aims to achieve integrated management of natural resources and other ecosystems, leading to high and diverse agricultural productivity, food security, poverty reduction, and societal well-being. This is accomplished through the department's various programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the provision of material and human resources that keep pace with contemporary changes. Goals

1. To consolidate knowledge and sciences specific to forests and rangelands. 2. To emphasize the... gnificance of these sciences and their role in environmental conservation. 3. To train students on the conservation of vegetation in general and the role of sustainable development in maintaining the growth of natural forests and rangelands. 4. To emphasize these natural resources as a national asset that must be developed and improved. 5. To train students on forest development and the utilization of natural forests for the production of firewood and charcoal, beekeeping, and the utilization of natural and aromatic plants through the establishment of their own projects. 6. To train students on surveying rangelands, natural forests, and artificial plantations, and evaluating their production. 7. To develop and improve natural rangelands and methods for their conservation. 8. To qualify students capable of working and planning in accordance with the policies of the Libyan state, the policies of Mediterranean countries, and global policies concerning world and human heritage.
